President's Message

Friends,
As the eighth President of the Interdenominational Theological
Center (ITC), I am honored to welcome you to the citadel of
excellence in theological education born of African American faith
God as revealed in Jesus Christ. The collective heritage of six
seminaries from this rich faith tradition anchors the research,
scholarship, and spiritual depth that inform the preparation of
church leaders for the twenty-first century’s global society.
As I begin my tenure at ITC this 2010-2011 academic year, I sense a
great spirit of enthusiasm throughout this historic institution. In
spite of the many challenges to human dignity that are rampant in
society today, those of us who understand the struggle to undo
oppressive realities also understand the strength of that faith
tradition which affirms “Jesus is a rock in a weary land.” It
is this faith tradition that enables ITC to prepare transformational
Christian leaders for today’s plural and multifaceted world
community.
Located in the center of Atlanta, Georgia, ITC uses its urban
context as a primary resource to examine what God is doing in
society. With our faculty of renowned scholar-teachers, the Gardner
C. Taylor Archives, Black Women in Church and Society Program, the
Woodruff Library of the Atlanta University
Center and its repository of the
Martin Luther King, Jr. Papers, our
Youth Hope Builders Academy, Faith Journey Program, Religious
Heritage of the African World, Spirituality and Health Program,
Distance Learning opportunities, outstanding staff, and talented and
enthusiastic student body, we welcome you to visit our campus.
Join us in Christian education that moves beyond mere information
and rhetoric about justice, love, forgiveness and peace. At ITC,
scholarly excellence and spiritual integrity are combined to prepare
Christian leaders who will enhance the quality of life for all God’s
creation to the glory of God.
Welcome to
the Interdenominational Theological Center!
Sincerely,
Ronald Edward Peters
President
