Dr. Frances Bryant-Lowery, Administrative Dean
From its inception and by its very nature The
Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) is an intentionally
ecumenical theological community. Despite being comprised of six
denominationally affiliated seminaries, the ITC has always welcomed,
enrolled, and graduated students who were not a part of the
constituent denominations. In 1998, due to the efforts of three
“at-large” students, Vernor Clay, Angelia Clark, and Frances Bryant
along with Dr. David Shannon, then Academic Dean; the group of
students formerly classified as “at-large” were formally designated
the Selma T. and Harry V. Richardson Ecumenical Fellowship. The
name honors ITC’s founding president and his wife, whose idea of an
ecumenical, historically Black seminary manifested in the creation
of the ITC.
The Fellowship currently operates under the
supervision of the Administrative Dean, Dr. Frances Bryant-Lowery.
At present, the Richardson Ecumenical Fellowship comprises the
second largest group of students enrolled at the ITC. This diverse
ecumenical community has historically been comprised of students
from a variety of church affiliations including African Methodist
Episcopal Zion, Disciples of Christ, Roman Catholic, United Church
of Christ, Lutheran, Assembles of God, Episcopalians, and even
students from the Islamic faith community.
Members of the Richardson Ecumenical Fellowship participate fully in
the life of the ecumenical campus. The Richardson Ecumenical
Fellowship elects officers annually and undertakes a full calendar
of programs, services, and activities on campus and in the larger
community.
