The Interdenominational Theological Center and its Baptist constituent seminary, Morehouse School of Religion, have many outstanding graduates who are proud alums. However, ITC does not have many alums who make financial contributions to the Center. Graduates most often respond to requests for support from their denominational schools. While understandable, it makes fundraising difficult because the foundations and philanthropists we solicit are unimpressed by the low percentage of alums who make contributions to ITC.
One gift from one alum does not greatly increase our percentage of alumni giving, but a recent gift made to ITC by Rev. Dr. John D. Fuller has made a remarkable difference. John, a 1978 graduate of ITC and MSR, retired from Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church after 42 years of service. At this year’s MSR Founders Day celebration, John presented ITC’s President with a $100,000 check from Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. Fuller directed proceeds from his retirement funds to ITC to complete payment of a $200,000 pledge made by the MSR Board of Trustees when he served on the Board in 2014.
We realize that for years ITC has fallen short on our obligation to our alums and we are making a commitment to better serve our graduates. We are reaching out to you, inviting you back to campus for events and finding ways to help you advance your ministries. We hope you see, hear and feel the difference in our dedication to you. And in doing so, we pray you will in turn recognize the importance of giving back to ITC.
Dr. Fuller’s extraordinary gift is one of the largest ever given to ITC by an alum, and he hopes it will encourage his fellow alums to give back to ITC. While we understand not all our alums will be able to make a similar gift, we want to encourage you to give back something on a regular basis. Even a commitment as small as $5 per month will make a huge difference for the school. If a large number of alums give regularly, it will not only insure a steady income stream that will help ITC educate the next generation of transformative leadership for the Church and community, it will also provide potential funders evidence of our alumni support.
ITC thanks Rev. Dr. Fuller for his sacrificial gift, and we pray God will continue to bless and keep him, his family, and his ministry.
